    My brand spanking new camera

So much fun to receive a gift even before it's Christmas! I finally got it today - my new Canon EOS400D dSLR, yay! So long since I've really really wanted something, and I'm so happy I've got it. Thanks dad. Feels like being 12 again and getting that Lego castle I had obsessed about for so long. Now...all I have to do is find stuff to take pictures of and the time to do it. Brilliant. In any case, can't wait. I'm sure there's heaps of interesting things to shoot in Brisbane, right?

Anyway, borrowed a couple of books from the Brisbane Square public library about photography, spent the afternoon reading the Canon users manual (so many settings and controls!), and shooting rubbish in and around the house without stepping foot out of the door (that's how lazy I am). Will post my shots in my album...one might think I got a camera just to shoot the sky...hehe.

THANKS!!!! I love you dad! (and who said money can't buy love?)

p/s I'm glad you're back too, jess! haha...

    Quarterlife

Here's something to watch if you've got time on your hands - Quarterlife on youtube.

Youtube blurb says: "A show about a group of twentysomethings coming of age in the digital generation. And a social network about what it means to be creative, to pursue a passion, to make a difference in the world -- or just to find a place in it.
From Marshall Herskovitz and Edward Zwick, the creative team behind "My So-Called Life," quarterlife is the first Internet series that is as high quality as any film or television show - it's smart, funny, emotional...real."

And here's their official page - Quarterlife. Their show is up to Episode 1 - Part 4 now. You can actually set up a profile there - there are featured artists' profiles and everything. Reminds me of DeviantArt actually. Is this going to become another MySpace vs Facebook thing, but for artists?

I reckon stuff like this popping up on the internet raises more questions about intellectual property. What is the value of content? I say the more the merrier. The computer is fast becoming my main source of entertainment, as compared to the tv. But that doesn't mean I'm all too anxious to be rid of my tv either. We need some variety, that's all.

    I'm stressed...

Noooo...this is so wrong! It's my summer hol...I'm supposed to be carefree with the stresses of exams discarded in a heap behind me!

But alas...(to be a little more dramatic than it should be)...it is not to be. I'm stressing over the likelihood of moving yet again, the dilemma between unglamorous employment options, and friggin' law electives! Arghhh...

Picking law electives is harder than I thought. I don't know what kind of lawyer I want to be (commercial? intellectual property? real property? insurance?), or if I will be one at all. Maybe I'll end up being a kitchenhand. No...not a happy thought. Not that it's bad, it's just not as easy going as one might think. I seem to remember a lot of scraping...hmmm.

Actually, I change my mind. Picking law electives is not that hard. It's just cuz I'm so darn indecisive. Probably same reason I'm doing the course in the  first place. But I'm lucky cuz my indecisiveness saved me from picking something else which would probably have bored me out by now. Did I mention? I get bored easily. (hmmm...I seem to be in a sharing mood. Might as well milk it) Yes...I wonder if I could possibly stay on one job for more than a couple of years without getting bored. That sorta worries me sometime. But oh well, I suppose if I get bored, I'll just move on until I find something that sticks. Not the end of the world.

Speaking of end of the world, that always makes me feel better. No...the end of the world doesn't make me feel better, I'm not that morbid. The fact that it's not the end. Thinking of worse things makes you feel better, isn't that weird?

    What is EMO?

Ever asked yourself that question? Or heard the word so many times that you've really stopped caring? All the same...this video is pretty hilarious!

    What is emo from videojug.com

Seriously, they may look very weird sometimes, but I don't think they are anything to worry about. It seems more like a dress code to me. Just think black, red, white and lots of stripes. Throw in a couple of piercings (I may be guilty of that bit), black makeup, frequently hang around in groups in the middle of Queens Street Mall and...Walahh...an emo.

People, chill...you need to get off their backs. They're just kids following a fashion trend. Like MC Hammer in his baggy pants, although I do admit I'd take emo clothes over that any day. Think school shootings. Did Seung-Hui Cho look emo? No. Did Eric Harris & Dylan Klebold look emo? No. There are scarier things than boys wearing black skinny jeans.

I love this song right now: Borne on the FM waves of the heart by Against Me! featuring Tegan Quin. Does that make me an emo?

    Life without a brain

Haha...I'm not trying to make fun of stupid people, but seriously, I find these lyrics very amusing.

Darth Vader: "Do not underestimate the force"

Exams were over on Thursday. Finally. My stress-draining activities:

Thu - Shopping with mum (retail therapy, always works)
Fri - Lunch & gift shopping with Jess (also got my BCC library membership - yay!), then basketball, then dinner with Evan & Co at Wagamama New Farm, & coffee at Rue de Paris, Milton (who wants to call it Paris Street when you can make it sound so fancy?).
Sat - Breakfast with Neelam (at 7.30am!! - I amaze myself) , Movie with Kai & Co - Death at a Funeral

Ok, death at a funeral - not hilarious. Funny? Maybe a little. Got a few smirks and chuckles out of me. Definitely not laugh-out-loud comedy in my book. The pick-up was so slow, I almost fell asleep at first. Not that I hate British farce (enjoyed Four Weddings & a Funeral, & Bridget Jones), but I just didn't like this one. Too bad.

And I missed half of Star Wars IV on tv for that. 30 years on, it still works.

Ugh...why am I soooo tired? I feel like I need some sleep all the time, but I can't fall asleep half the time. I didn't think I was that stressed during exams, but I seem to be suffering the aftermath. Apparently stress brings out the zits.

p/s Jessica's pics of fancy Christmas cakes on display (some kind of competition) in the middle of Queen Street mall. We even got samples...yum!

Study you say? No...I've got a day more...then FREE at last! Woohoo...

So...I found a video of T&S cooking again...What? Not only do they sing...they cook too?

"you need a partner to cook" lol... Wouldn't be half as fun in any case.
And if I had a choice I'd have tattoos on my forearm like that.

    random vids:
    - Tegan talking about how parents turn into geeks because of their kids (yeah it's all our fault)
    - Tegan's interview with MTV Canada (I've got sold out tickets to that tour...woohoo!)

What? Tegan and Sara's music video for The Con came out more than 2 weeks ago and I didn't know? I'm not THAT immersed in exams am I?
Only discovered it when I was looking up Against Me!'s video Thrash Unreal on youtube.
