February 27 It's Surfers Paradise, baby!!25 Feb 2006, Saturday
Woke up 5.55am, which is the earliest since I got here. Freezing…well, to me at least. Kinda weird to walk the almost deserted streets of Brisbane city.
Currumbin was ok…just too big and required too much walking from a sleepy me. Enjoyed the education session though. Loved the possum, loved stroking the big ‘blue-tongued-blah-blah’ lizard. So much for education huh?
Lunch at Tugun was great. Barramundi…seen one, 1st time eating one. Felt kinda guilty actually. I was sitting at something like the “Chinese Table” or something cuz that was virtually what it was. A few M’sians, 1 HK guy, 1 gal from China…
Damn sleepy by the time we got to Surfers Paradise. Still cool though…seeing guys and gals practically half-naked enjoying the sun and the sea. Now if people in M’sia were that laid back wouldn’t it be great? They seemed to be really enjoying themselves, playing beach volleyball, sunbathing, skating and what not. Ahem….except that one of the 1st big signs I noticed on one of the buildings was “Skin Cancer Clinic”. Eeek….people, always use sunscreen.
Not enough time to see as much as I would have liked to. I guess there’s always April’s week long break…heeeheee…… No money lah…the only souvenir I got was a cheap adaptor and a pair of slippers that cost $2.95! Talking bout living on a budget. February 23 alrighty thenWell now...I've been on bus, train and ferry. Not bad eh? Bus is practical, ferry is fun, train is pointless. I think. February 22 I'm okDamn...how come dad gets to see a whaleshark like a week after I'm gone??! Nevermind...I will see one if it's the last thing I do! haha.... Brisbane's real nice. Everythings so different and so pretty. And artistic. I'm seeing art and beautifully designed buildings and finishes everywhere. Wait till course actually starts...eek.... Haven't started and I've already got 4 thick studyguides! And no picture in sight. February 08 Freezing coldDamnit...I cant stand being cold. Back from the coldest night dive I've ever had (with dad, a Brit couple doing Advanced and a NAUI Instructor). And I didn't even get to see the 'flying robin' thingy I so wanted to see. The water's so darn cold nowadays......but that doesn't mean I hated every second of my dives today. Sometimes you see some cool stuff and then you just stop feeling that cold. For instance, this morning the reef of PP was covered with Krill (not sure how u spell that...shrimp thingys). When you see krill you're supposed to see a whaleshark but sadly no amount of praying got me that. Amazing enough to see all that Krill though. There were also many schools of other fish feeding on them...so much that you'd think the visibility was bad until you were close enough to find out it was actually loads and loads of fish! So cool. Also saw jellyfish twice- once during the nightdive which was very interesting. And also a huge croc fish. Huge. To bad EL not here to see the Krill eh.
I was freezing my ass off and those Brit ppl were going:"Yeah, nice and warm!". February 06 Family time!EL just left this morning. Late because we almost got the time wrong. And now she's in a free hotel room probably having free food...... We did a lot of stuff together before that. Had really delicious Indian rice. Yummy...fish head curry and papadums. Not to mention Sabah Tea! hehe...loved it! Speaking of food, I'm gonna really miss the food here. We also climbed the TF hill together after eating at SL. It was just after quite a pour so everything was kinda slippery and muddy. Mum really needs more exercise...... February 04 byebyeI must say, the past few days were not bad. Had dinner at WS's. Loved the roast lamb...yum yum. Too bad I suck when it comes to gambling. So I don't...heehee. Played Twister at about 1a.m. or something. Oh man...it was soooo tiring. Even super-fit NL had a cramp. And I think BT's long limbs almost made a knot! haha.... Celerated EL's birthday at the relatively new pizza place. It was nice. Enjoyed the pizza and salad alot. And really glad the EL's liked her presents...at least we didn't get her a necklace again. yeah...when you dunno what to get a gal just buy jewellery...... After that we got a cake...a cake with 4 different flavours...or 4 cakes? Went diving with EL and 1 korean lady. I may have a terrible sense of direction on land...buy I managed to find the garden eels and 2 snake eels! tada! Also saw a crocodile fish, blue-spotted stingray, lionfish and best of all-a big cuttlefish (cuz EL'd never seen one b4). Cool! Also tried diving into the water...y'know...like those swimmers. But that's another sad story...hehe.. |
